Anh "Joseph" Quang Cao (Vietnamese: Cao Quang Ánh pronounced /gaʊ/; Gow) (born March 13, 1967) is a New Orleans lawyer and a U.S. Representative-elect from Louisiana's 2nd congressional district. He is a member of the Republican Party. On December 6, 2008, Cao defeated nine-term Democratic U.S. Representative William Jefferson with 49.6 percent of the vote to Jefferson's 46.8 percent. Cao will be the first Vietnamese-American to serve in Congress and won as a Republican in a district that usually votes overwhelmingly Democratic.

Cao previously ran unsuccessfully as an independent for District 103 of the Louisiana House of Representatives. He was a delegate to the 2008 Republican National Convention. Cao is a member of the Orleans Parish Board of Election Supervisors. A devout Roman Catholic, he is a board member for Mary Queen of Vietnam Catholic Church's Community Development Corporation which assists Vietnamese-Americans with hurricane relief, and is a member of the National Advisory Council of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

  • Why?

Because he's the only Republican that voted for the sake of the people in his district rather then the interests of the Republican party?

At least, he had the guts to vote for what he believe was right.

  • Nobody should be forced to pay for others because that isn't freedom? Then by that argument, those who're against the war in the Middle East shouldn't pay for it. That's paying for somebody else, isn't it? The military supplies almost, if not all, the weapons and tech for our soldiers through government spending from our tax dollars not to mention the R&D for said weapons.

  • He should've been a Democrat. He would've continued in office. The GOP has little support in New Orleans. There are plenty of Democrats like myself who are against abortion.

  • Vietnamese pride, Vietnamese pride...I'm sick of it. there are many many other races that better than us. So please!

  • @BroadCastTuber The state run insurance could ruin the US because it might be too costly. However, private insurance companies are just crooks. GOP always criticizes the government because of its size. Look at all the overpaid bureaucrats in these private insurance companies. Why should we help pay these fat pigs? GOP needs to work harder!

  • he's great in almost of his answer but it's so bullshit when he talks about Vietnam at the end of the interview.

  • @BroadCastTuber

I hate for-profit health insurance companies, too.

But I'm afraid that the state-run health insurance might fail the USA.

Many lawmakers are willing to fight for American citizenships for illegal immigrants.

    That really concerns me.
