I did a quick outdoor test video of the Kodak Zi8 in all its 1080p, 30fps glory followed up by the same shot at 720p 60fps. A surprisingly noticeable crop factor comes into play at 1080p, the image is zoomed in by about 50%. I wasn't expecting that. The clarity of the image is far greater in the 1080p but the 720p gives the expected increase in quality for moving vehicles. Compare the people walking to the cyclists and cars, for instance.

NOTE: YouTube limits video uploads to ~720p 30fps, but you can still get an idea of the difference.

  • you cant see the difference because youtube cant give a higher resolution then 30fps

  • @quick9807 frames per second has nothing to do with resolution.

  • Blond question Even though I have dark hair, How does the 60fps would make a difference in a video? becuase i Have my Samsung Wave :3 and When i take videos at 720p (30FPS) and then i make a 1080i video in My Sony SLR camera at 60FPS I don't see a difference in them? So PLEASE! answer me because I'm pretty dumb on this things -__-

    Thanks

  • @ZeldaSteinVideos95 faster you record, the smoother the video. Old home videos were only a few frames per second and looked really jumpy. Think of the old black and white videos where people always look like they are running around. Film is shot at 24 fps, digital mostly 29.97 fps. But high speed video can be done for smoother action or for slowing down action for cool slow motion shots. Really high fps can actually cause jumpy video like the movie Saving Private Ryan.

  • If you setup a cam while you're driving on the highway - what setting is best? 720p@60fps or 1080p@30fps...?

  • @seatgurus 60fps definitely better, if a smoother video is what you want.

  • @ZeldaSteinVideos95 Through video software, you can get you 60FPS to play at 30FPS, and it gives like a slow motion effect. Basically showing action at 1/2 speed. This is cool for dramatic fast paced stuff when you want to slow the action down and not make it look all jittery.

  • the 1080p crop factor can be eliminated with a wide angle lens

  • @justex07 he meant frame rate

  • @justex07 Actually it does the higher the fps the lower quality like 240fps is usally 240p on most cameras

  • Watch out that black guy in the back pack is looking for that camera to steal....

  • Beautiful place

  • name of song?

  • This video is a FAIL, the resolution goes up to 720p only, and youtube doesn't allow 60fps, the max is 30fps -.- So in the end, what you had was a comparison of 720p 30fps (with great quality) vs 720p 30fps (with "normal" quality)

  • no matter what your camera is 14.000.000p and 2.000.000.0000.0000.00.0.0.0.0.0.0. fps on youtube but it will be 30 -35 then you try to show that the difference does not POST VIDEOS, there is no difference!

  • Youtube is 30fps
