Learning to use a miter saw

I wish I did some video as they tried to figure out how to set this up first. It would have to go under the comedy category.
Anyway, more time today was taken playing with my new toy. I didn't play with it, my daughter and her BF did, figuring out how to use it.
This video shows the BF just made the first cut on a piece of wood that was just lying around. Watch, however, how he just puts the two pieces together. Once he did another, opposite (you don't see it here), I held them together to look like the corner of something. My daughter and I both had the same idea and spoke almost together--"picture frames." Oh is my mind working. But, first things first, I need to get the remodeling done first.
