Linsey de Paul - Sugar me (1972)

One for you and one for me
But one and one and one
Pardon me - comes to three
Looking sweet and all the while
Hid behind the smile was saccharine
I'm a go between

Save me, save me
Baby, baby sugar me
Gotta get my candy free
Sugar me by day
Sugar me my baby, baby sugar me
Gotta get my candy free
Sugar me by day, sugar me by night
Sugar sugar sugar sugar
sugar sugar sugar

Count me in from one to two
But nothing more or less will do
Just me and you
Honey sweet and harmony
Will melt away the bitter memory
It's gotta be

Save me, save me
Baby, baby sugar me
I gotta get my candy free
Sugar me by day
Sugar me my baby, baby sugar me
I gotta get my candy free
Sugar me by day, sugar me my night
Sugar sugar sugar sugar

Save me, save me
Baby, baby sugar me
Gotta get my candy free
Sugar me by day
Sugar me my baby, baby sugar me
Gotta get my candy free
Sugar me by day, sugar me by night
Sugar sugar sugar sugar
sugar sugar sugar

  • I was hopelesly devoted to her whan i was 12 years old .

  • My impression as someone not having been around in the 1960s is that at the close of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s, people involved in the music industry, such as this video example, couldn't figure out what music to make and more likely did not know what they hell they were doing.

  • @gibb1962 While I'm a fan of Lynsey De Paul, i must say that i doubt even she herself would claim this (and ABBA etc) to be anything more than a bit of light fun - some (not all) punk bands were trying to do something serious, (and not sound like Yes) and some (like the Clash) are still hugely popular, and enjoy a level of respect well deserved for their efforts. And many do find 'joy' in it to this day. Of course it's purely subject to taste, and there's no right or wrong in that.

  • She's ugly and she can't sing but damn I like the song!

  • yes better than punk.they say punk had to happen ,but when it did in '76 the best and most popular music around was pop and disco.even after 30 years ABBA and the Bee Gees are huge, but what about the punk rock groups?i just watched kc and the sunshine band's shake your booty- pure joy.you can't say that after listening to punk rock.

  • great days..better than punk!!!!

  • 2.16 one beatiful smile!!

  • She's "Bloody Well" beautiful!!

  • I agree with everybody below, but, this is still fab! And I'm a Prog Rock fan! There is something "Supertramp" about her!

  • @snotmale Bizarre and sickening.

  • @Khultan The main problem arose from the fact that the the majors and Broadcasters saw great store in turning over a quick buck, and that meant appealing to mass markets. Where the rise of rock/prog and the hippy movement provided youth with their own scene, money was 'in the home' and 'pop' was seen as another form of Variety Entertainment. This was, until Punk...
