I captured this video through my 10" f/4.5 newtonian telescope with a Philips SPC900NC webcam while in Balboa Park in San Diego on August 6th, 2008.

This video shows the shadow of Io transiting the planet, its the small dark dot near the middle of the planet. Its hard to see. :)

I am a member of the San Diego Astronomy Association (sdaa.org) and we do this as part of our outreach program. We're in Balboa Park, near the fountain, the first Wednesday of every month. (Weather permitting!)

  • I am glad you took the time to film this.

Jupiter also has rings system that cannot be seen, it has at least 63 moons and it is more than 1,400 times the volume of the Earth (more than 1,400 Earths could fit inside it).
