Any Elton John 'fan' who has neither heard nor appreciated this track is not really an Elton John fan at all.

In 1972, I was 11 and use to baby sit for my neighbors. Once the kids were down, I'd go to her record collection, pull this out, and put it on the record player, put on the massive head phone, lay back in the bean bag chair..and sing..sing...sing! I'm 51 now, I'm sitting here, in front of my mac, still wearing massive head phones, and singing...as I type this. How grateful I am, to have lived through the period of music I did!

There's one song I like on "Leather Jackets" The last one on side one called "Gypsy Heart." I also like "Satorial Eloquence" on "21 At 33" My favorite EJ albums are the first seven studio albums from "Empty Sky" to "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road." If I had to choose just one, it would have to be "Madman Across The Water." That album really had an effect on me the first time I listened to it.

For sure the drugs damaged his career. He was also almost too prolific for his own good in his golden era, and too intensely living the high life and concert circuit (i suppsoe it was an adrenalin drug too), almost burned out by 76. Victim of Love and Leather Jackets his worst albums i.m.o, pipping 21 at 33. Captain Fantastic, Yellow Brick Road and Tumbleweed his best.

I've had "The Union" for about 3 months now and haven't listened to it yet. I will definitely listen to it as well as "Diving Board" when it's released. I have his complete discography including that horrible "Victim Of Love" album from 1979. I thought Elton had lost his mind when he released that. lol..He also scared his fans when he said disco was his new direction. I'm just glad he got off the drugs and alcohol because he probably wouldn't be around today if he hadn't.

Yeah he changed and declined. Since The One (ok), Big Picture was poor, Peachtree was mediocre, CATK pretty good, Made in England and SFTWC fine, if not up to his 70s best, but my own recent favourite has been The Union, and Diving Board is apparently clearly better- so hopefully it will not disappoint you. I've been a fan since the early 70s and half the albums i've ditched but i enjoy some of the better late albums and this time i have high expectations.

About a year ago somebody loaned me all of Elton John's albums from The One (1992) to "The Captain And The Kid" (2006) and I spent a few days listening to them. Some of it was excellent but I thought most of it was mediocre. I burned a CD with 11 songs that I think exceed or at least match his earlier work. Elton has changed a lot over the years and so have I. I was 12 when I became a fan and I just turned 55 in March.

Elton's albums this millennium Songs from the West Coast, Captain and the kid, The Union are much better than most from the 80s and 90s- and look for The Diving Board, out in September; there's an exciting buzz about it..

I was mesmerized by the "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album for days when I got it for my 16th birthday in 1974. Back then I considered it a masterpiece. I still enjoy listening to his earlier albums from time to time but I stopped following his music after 1985. "Ice On Fire" was the last album I bought.
