MOTORCYCLE, copyright Chuck Picklesimer 2011

Note.....even though I never owned a real motorcycle, I did however, own and ride a baby blue Vespa scooter while I was in the Air Force. One hundred miles per gallon of gas and a top speed of 55 MPH if you bent over a little. I will now tell you how ignorant I was. The Vespa required that you mix 2 cycle oil with the gas. So, every time I needed gas, I would fill the tank, add the oil, then vigorously shake the scooter. Finally I saw some other scooter rider doing it the right way, mixing the gas in a can before filling the tank.
Thanks to Virginia Allison who gave me some tips about cold weather bike riding etc.
Thanks for listening, Chuck.

When you ride your motorcycle in the Spring
You're aware of every fragrance
Every bold and subtle thing
Like the pavement at your feet
And your motorcycle rumble
As you ride on into luck
And glide away from trouble.

'til the ride is all that matters when you're
Caught up in the beat, and your ticket to salvation
Is your motorcycle seat.

When you ride your motorcycle in the Summer
Sun on your face playing tag with shade
Brings your focus to the scene and the sound
Of your machine is your mantra being
Shared by others,

'til the ride is all that matters when you're
Caught up in the beat, and your ticket to salvation
Is your motorcycle seat.

When you ride your motorcycle in the fall
The colors of the leaves
And the coolness of the breeze, show
That time is fleeting and the days are not as long
But the path is always there to be traveled and shared
By each man and woman rider
Who will answer the call.

'til the ride is all that matters when you're
Caught up in the beat, and your ticket to salvation
Is your motorcycle seat.

When you ride your motorcycle in the Winter
Rides are cold invigorating, snows of white
Against the bleak
'til the ride is all that matters when you're
Caught up in the beat, and your ticket to salvation
Is your motorcycle seat.

  • Dig your shades Chuck. Remind me of that iconic picture of Brando, the wild one.:-) Seriously, love your song. Freedom, salvation – like they're one and the same. I ain't never had a bike either, but I think I understand the concept. I've been metaphorically on this chopper for a good long ride, heading into the fall and dead of winter. You really craft these well. Always a treat to hear your latest.

  • @karlmahlmann hi Karl. very nice to hear from you. i wear the shades sometimes because i have glaucoma, and the eye drops cause a red irritation to the skin around the eye. sometimes to the point of distraction. i enjoyed feeling so close to natural surroundings when riding, the scent of flowers and wet leaves, the wind and heightened awarenss of it all. beware however of rain and the thousand sharp pricks of pain against unprotected skin. looking forward to your own next posting, chuck.

  • Hi Chuck, I've never wanted to ride a motorcycle, but this song makes it sound a great pleasure. I think this is one of your best songs, highly evocative, with a particularly good chorus and some lovely guitar-picking. It's good to hear you in such fine form!

    Every good wish,

    Paddy
