A rapid fire description of my Kyoto trip. I am sleep deprived but have reached the state where I'm still hyper, so I'm a little more of a spaz than usual. Also, it's (minorly) educational!

In the public transportation in Japan, seniors get priority, not by gender.

If you see a senior citizen standing and no empty seats can be found, you are supposed to offer your seat to him or her.

True, women get no special privilege only because she's a woman.

@allgoo19 Actually, sometimes seniors (both men and women) got flustered when I offered my seat and wouldn't take it. I asked a friend who was more conversant in Japanese culture, and he said accepting my seat would make them seem "frail."

Do you know Japanese people always tend to decline kind offer? It's called, "Enryo". In a sentence, used as "Enryo suru."

They have this idea that if they accept the first offer, it looks like they were anticipating it and not cool. If you keep push saying, "Don't say that, please, please have seat." then they'll accept it with double bow, triple bow saying "Thank you. thank you."
