This is my new ride, a Tiderace Xplore S kayak. It has an orange deck, gray hull and black "quadrants". It has the standard lay up: fiberglass with some kevlar reinforcements. It was designed by Aled Williams, co-founder of Tiderace (along with Knoydart's owner , I believe) in the UK. It was manufactured by Charger Composites, in Kokkola, Finland. It has a skeg ( a "fin" that lowers from a slot in the rear of the hull which improves tracking ) which I didn't show deployed. The yellow band running down the centerline on the bottom is the optional external keel strip (additional "wear and tear" layer). Haven't weighed it yet, but manufacturer claims 55 pounds.

  • Been out in her much? Done any mods to her?

  • @onlywhenpissed Sure, Long Island Sound is my normal stomping ground and once a year I head up to the Maine coast for the good stuff. Only mods are the ComNav compass and a little extra seat padding to perfect the fit to me- honestly it was perfect right out of the container truck. The thing that really sets it apart from other brands is the knees-up cockpit and excellent seat/ backband. It is the only low-volume kayak I have ever paddled that affords truly all day comfort.

  • No, this is actually the opposite: it's the lowest-volume version.

I have a friend (6' 3" 220 lbs) who test paddled it and found the leg room to be tight for him. His own kayak, however, is a gigantic Current Designs Solstice GT Titan...
