Jam out with Propellerhead Reason 5 !!...
Download the full cd mix "Monument" here for free... http://soundcloud.com/flatliquid

Filterpunk was played live using the Novation Remote 25SL midi controller in Reason 5 Beta 5.0b6 (Build 1,415). Most of the sounds were written in Reason 4. The kickdrum is from the Kong Drum Machine (new to Reason 5).

First I mix out of Dj Obek - Hatiras - Spaced licker with Filterpunk (LIVE) via Reason 5 (laptop), then mix out of Filterpunk with Armand Van Helden - Dance The Way I Feel using Pioneer CDJ 800 mk2s and a Gemini PS 626 3 channel mixer.

Filterpunk is designed so that practically anyone can walk up and jam with it. Only a third of the sounds in the file are actually used in this video.

Here's how I made it work on Reason 5 Beta:

A track I wrote in Reason 4 "Filterpunk" was forward compatible with reason 5 beta because almost all the sounds were made from scratch. The only sample was a kick from Wonderland Percussion. Reason 5 beta did not allow refills to be used. I simply replaced the kick with a Kong machine and filtered a tom to make it sound like a hard hitting kick. This process took me no longer than 5 minutes.

Reason 5 beta only allows for 1 hour of use and saving/exporting is disabled. So I set the camera up, and in one shot I made this video with about 45 minutes to spare.

Official release date for Reason 5 is August 25th 2010

Cheers

Hey dude you play really cool! Congrats!

I am thinking on buying one of these, but can't make up my mind among this one (61 keys), the A800PRO, MPK61 and the Axiom 61. I find this one the best (as well as very shinny and "live appealing"), although the most expensive as well. Would you recommend the investment?

    Cheers

  • @starklombardi absolutely. I love it.... Be prepared to learn a lot about midi though.

  • do you use automap?

  • @demoun

No I do not. Automap is a really neat feature, but since I remote override every control anyway, I don't use it altogether.

  • Don't break the Knobs!!

  • @Loneunparagoned

Haha Thanks... I beat the crap out of it sometimes. Amazingly, the keyboard holds up like a beast.

  • @gengenrulez novations remote sl 25 mkii

  • holy crap, this is awesome! what's the name of that remote?

  • Awsome!!!

  • @MattandHolly920 You mean you can use the SL Mk2 without automap by default?

  • @starklombardi dont get the axiom if your going to use reason, its the bigest pain in the ass to try and get the knobs working, i had it at one point and then all of a sudden it stopped working. i wanted this keyboard originally but its so hard to find in canada so i got the axiom 25 instead.

  • awesome!

  • Hey that rocks mate, nice one! Can I ask how did you get the loop (sample?) bassline to play backwards at some point in the mix? It sounded really sweet! Did you sequence it in beforehand or did you map that to the controller? Making music by PC alone is all quite new to me, cheers man.

  • great work! loved the mix!
