As part of the British government's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) program, Kent County Council and Gensler have developed a kit-of-parts prototype that serves to support team-based, creative learning. The "plaza" concept being tested at New Line Learning Academy is part of a countywide renewal of primary and secondary schools. Designed to suit an array of learning types, the prototype offers a highly flexible enclosure for lectures, focused work, teamwork and socializing. On nights and weekends, the renovated gym space provides a 24/7-resource for community activities. Since introducing the plaza, the school has seen a 90 percent increase in attendance and a 375 percent increase in the grade pass rate.
