More than a dozen Signal Mountain and McCallie students face charges after fight

A fight at Signal Mountain Middle-High School on Monday afternoon led to charges being filed or pending against more than a dozen local students.

Signal Mountain police were called to the school about 2:20 p.m. on a report of a car accident, said Police Chief Boyd Veal. Officers noticed a vehicle leaving the scene at a high rate of speed, stopped it and determined it was the car involved in the accident, he said.

The four occupants were McCallie School students and were charged with offenses ranging from DUI and drinking underage to criminal trespassing and possession of alcohol underage, Chief Veal said.

A subsequent investigation led to information that a large fight had occurred before the accident involving McCallie and Signal Mountain students, Chief Veal said.
