Season 8 , episode 11 . Originally aired 27 January 2010

BREWERY'S DESCRIPTION & INFORMATION:
Possibly the oldest beer, Gueuze, or Geuze, (pronounced "GOO-za") is unseasoned, wild-fermented wheat beer. The brewers blend aged lambic and younger lambic, to taste, and a bottle refermentation occurs after capping. It is highly coveted by gourmands in Belgium who lay it in their cellars like wine.
Golden color, cidery, winey palate; reminiscent, perhaps, of bubbly dry vermouth with a more complex and natural flavor. Style—Gueuze Lambic
As an aperitif in place of dry sherry, with carbonnade a la beouf, mussels in white wine or Gueuze, flavorful cheeses; traditionally served in tall, thick tumbler with cubes of sugar to sweeten to taste.

  • You Americans and your crazy pronunciations, its "gerz" not "goooze" and Belgians speak Flemish that is closer to a mix of Dutch and French but closer to Dutch.

I really like Gueuze and this one of my favourites which is surprising because of the rest of Timmerman's lambics are terrible. After a day stomping around Gent a nice Gueuze was perfect for quenching our thirst.

I agree with Henry that this is a bit easier drinking that say a Cantillon that can be a bit hardcore on the sourness scale!

  • @HopZine hey, the official description from the brewery's website says it's pronounced goo-za.

    Timmerman's? Don't you mean Lindemans?

I wouldn't consider a sour very freshing, it's more like a tasty candy treat. I love their fruit flavored lambics, though. I'll have to review more of them this year.
