Some Plain Bob Major on some not-so-lovely bells during an open day to raise funds for the restoration of St Jude's Blackburn bells and an augmentation to Barnoldswick (video soon).

  • What's so wrong with these then - apart from they sound pretty shite!!

  • @simonbellringer They don't go very well, and there's something wrong with the church but I can't remember what...

  • @8spliced They can't have gone too badly, young Gemma Mills turned the Tenor in. There is a fair amount of tower sway, but not as much as at Bamber Bridge.

  • @fartwell2000 Jemma can handle just about anything ringing-wise, so that's really no comparison to make just because of her age :-P

  • nothing much a mornings work put right. The 7th needs a new proper canon strap. As for the Church, its closure is the latest blow in Bacup , with St. Saviours already shut, and st. Johns closed (1 bell) eventually 3 Anglican churches will be merged into one at the Methodist Church in the centre. Christ church needs nearly half a million spending on it, and with a small congregation there is no way they can raise that much

  • Nice to hear the bells again & see inside the church, Went to Sunday school there over 60yrs ago. Brought back memories

  • @simonbellringer The rubber bungs are to allow the back six and two 1922 M&S Trebles, to resonate freely. A few members of Team GTFU, prefer Christ Church over St Saviour.

  • @8spliced They still don't go that badly, they are on balls as well-though the seventh does have a "Mears" handstroke- I've double handled on a few pairs of bells here and my double handling is quite poor!

They aren't as easy as a ring hung in a metal frame with all new fittings in a tower that doesn't rock about, but in no way is the ring really difficult. Some are quite odd struck though

  • @fartwell2000 What on earth for? Must say I prefer the other 8 going on the recordings here...

  • @irkibby We've got some fun towers for you to grab, next time you are up for a tinkle with us...

  • @simonbellringer These are actually the better sounding of the two Bacup eights-but these have rubber bungs on the clapper balls.

  • @8spliced The Church is closing....the bells are semi unringable as well, but don't go too badly considering what is above your head in the tower. Sadly, there won't be any ringing bells in Bacup soon-even the ring of one will be going.
