Banabans have a beutiful dance, i'm a great fan, i occasionally go to Rabi Island...if you want to got there the best time is during the 15th dec Rabi day celebration which is a week long festival remebering their arrival on Rabi. they are very fun people to be with!
Rabians (Banabans) are from Banaba Islands which was indeed claimed by Kiribati but they are not Gilbertese, nowadays they are refered to as indigenous peoples of Fiji along side the Vitians, Rotumans, and Kioans

I would like to reitterate a few facts submitted previously: I am of Kiribati background born and raised in Fiji. I have been to Rabi Island as a child and still have lots of families living there. Banabans are originally from Ocean island or Banaba Island in the Kiribati group. I previously worked for the National Archives of Fiji for 6yrs where I had access to information on how the Banabans came to Fiji in the 1940s.
Hello spiritfingers, thank you for the information, hope to go to Fiji again next year.

Rabi are descendants of Banabans-a small island now claimed by the Kiribati. The Banabans were relocated by to Fiji by the British during the great phosphate search. These ppl do not regard themselves as Kiribati but Banabans. Their culture, tradtion, food and clothing is similar to that of kiribati BUT they refuse to be called Kiribati. They are Banabans, btw the island is at the south west tip of Vanua Levu, falls under the Province of Cakaudrove. It is NOT in the Yasawas.
