i believe that this was the first professional comp.(etition)

@TheCityFlower...alexei had a congenital condition that after years of stress, wore down the cushioning and cartilidge (sp?) in his hip socket. so at the time of skate america in '02, his femur? bone was just grinding against the socket. this was incredibly painful, but up until then managed to skate through the pain. but at SA, it was so bad he had to withdraw from the competition, and 3 weeks later, from the amatuer ranks for good. mores the pity, b/c it forced him to retire.

The second step sequence is unbelievable! I can imagine how mind-blowing the program would look if he were in his full strength and not suffering that horrible pain... Why, or why did he have to quit so early??
