That was lovely. It was an amazing TV series. I don't think another show will ever hold us in such suspense for so long again.
What an amazing actor too. We loved that character, we loved him. He kept us hoping and praying he'd be acquitted for four years. I was eighteen when I first watched this. Hard to believe it's forty seven years since The Fugitive first aired and almost thirty years since he died. Bless him! He was brilliant.

One of the best shows in television history. Then and Now. I enjoyed the movie remake. A fine film with impressive cast. But, there was/ is something about David Janssen's performance that brought a special quality to the show which still cannot be duplicated. He is and will always be, in my mind, THE FUGITIVE.
Thank you for this tribute.

@bluesun267 Well said.

I just read your post - are you currently working on the book? I would be so happy to know that there will be new material about David Janssen. I started watching The Fugitive from the pilot episode - I was eleven years old, and fell instantly in love with him. I felt that only I could understand his loneliness and pain. I also thought he was the sexiest, most gorgeous man I ever saw, and all these years later, I still think so. Seeing him makes me smile, but with sadness.

Sorry,didn't mean to sound ignorant below with "directoring".I did first consider "direction"but wanted to convey al the different individual directors,and somehow this came out - oops.
To devroshart - I always was and always will be a huge fan of this show.My mother used to let me stay up one night a week(Tuesdays @ 9PM to 10PM CST)to watch this ABC showas well.."Peyton Place"with Dorothy Malone,Mia Farrow,Ryan O'Neal,et.al.preceded it at 8:30PM CST.I believe PP came on again on Thursday at the same time.Though the movie was well done(it premiered at the Coronet in San Francisco,while I was running that theatre),the movie could never match the TV series suspense.

We share the same memory, having caught the first Season in summer reruns, my parents also let me stay up one night a week during the school year. I would catch the closing theme to Peyton Place, which I still fell nostalgic when I hear it, waiting for Dr. Kimble. Decades later, I saw Mia Farrow in the audience of a Broadway show, and immediately thought of those Tuesday nights when I'd see her young face in previews for the next episode of PP.

Without David Janssen's characterization The Fugitive wouldn't be such a landmark--yes, the writing, editing, cinematography and music is top notch--but it is Kimble, with that sheepish look, that breaks me down every time. When he picks up the kitten, that's how the audience feels about him. It appeals to the most wonderful instinct humans are capable of. And then, add the terror I think all of us Americans share (more so today) --that our system can--and does--fail us.

David Janssen and Dr. Kimble was one of those perfect marriages of actor and role, and for better or worse, Janssen never seemed as good, imo, in any other role, not that Janssen wasn't a capable actor, just that Kimble was a once in a lifetime role.

I can tell by the way you put this together, that you must be a huge Fugitive fan like myself. You were probably lucky enough to see this in the 60's. I first saw this when I was 15 in 1990 on A&E, and have been hooked ever since.

Yep, I started watching when I was 9, in the summer of 1964. My parents let me stay up late one school night a week so I could keep watching when the new season started.
