This is an extremely rare fully restored 19th century 8 keyed cocus wood flute(Rudall and Rose design). This Rudall and Rose designed flute was made circa 1860 for an instrument dealer in London called William Madelaine."W Madelaine Improved" is stamped on it. William Madelaine was a registered instrument dealer trading in London from 1853 to 1894. All the original keywork is in perfect working order which makes the instrument fully chromatic. It is very easy to "fill" and has got a beautiful resonant rounded tone with the high octave having a particular sweetness.Anybody interested in buying it go to www.donedeal.ie/for-sale/instruments/2159590

  • Thanks for this lovely playing. I am lucky enough to have 2 Rudall & Rose flutes, vintage 1833 and 1840. The earlier flute has small tone holes and an ivory-bossed mouthhole, it has a exquisite almost reedy tone. The later flute has large tone-holes and a big sound to match. These are the Rolls-Royces of the 8-keyed flute. I just wish that I could do them full justice...

  • This flute has a fine tone ...allowing for your own expertise....!
