Grant Kawasaki goes inside the United Fishing Agency to bid on some fresh local fresh and take a guided tour with Brooks Takenaka.

The fish -- ahi, aku, marlin, mahimahi, wahoo, swordfish, opah, monchong and opakapaka are iced and displayed on plastic pallets for wholesaler and retailer to bid on. The operation is the only large-scale commercial auction in the United States where seafood buyers can touch, smell and taste the raw flesh of each individual fish that they buy.

The bigeye tuna, Thunnus obesus, is an important food fish and highly sought after recreational game fish. It is a true tuna of the genus Thunnus, belonging to the wider mackerel family Scombridae.

In Hawaiian, it is one of two species known as ahi; the other is yellowfin tuna.
