Tech in Wacky Races was at least from the 60s (I mean, what's with the modern motorbikes and steamrollers and whatnot?). My guess is that D&M travelled back in time in their spin-off.

@Telele2 Not to get too technical but the whole idea here was to stop the pigeon from delivering airmail. While the planes might look like WWI, the cars are from the early '30's and the '20's and '30's were known for airmail. The Nazi party started in 1933, so it's not far off. Just an observation, but the Wacky Races was better! =)

@TashkentFox It's not that easy to shoot a pigeon that's flying at full speed in the air.
Even if the squadron were top-shooters it would still be hard to hit the pigeon when he's almost invisible at his great height, plus they would need to actually manage to get a hit when they do see him.
They would ALSO need to include wind into their calculations.
