My 13 yo akita named Kikka, adopted a baby robin that i rescued from a fallen nest. The other babies drowned in nearby pond... this was the only survivor. The parents where nowhere to be found. having volunteered at a wildlife rehab center as a teen. I decided to raise the bird until it could survive on its own.
Kikka seemed to be very interested in the bird ...and after a couple of days i let her examine the bird. She would very gently sniff her, even very delicately massage her with her mouth just as if it were a newborn puppy. The bird would sleep on her hip during the day. When the bird started hopping all over the place, Kikka would follow it.
It got to the point that the bird would seek out the dog and vice versa. On a few occasions, when Kikka would be on her bed and the bird was hopping nearby she would very gently pull the bird by its tail onto her bed using her front teeth.
At that point the bird would hop onto kikka's hip for a nap.
Weeks later, the bird was starting to fly well . Early in the morning i would take the bird with Kikka in tow to the lawn hoping it would start to forage for food on its own. One day the bird flew to the top of the chimney of my house. Kikka yelped and cried. She seemed to sense the danger that was lurking above...a red-tail hawk, but there was nothing we could do . This video is in memory to Kikka's bird

  • any questions I have saved birds please email me. dog food but wet the kind you get in the can works great. I saved one and fed it that it grew healthy and I let it go a few weeks later.

  • @makayla1408 You can try and feed it baby cereal...you know the box cereal that you have to put water in it. I had a baby mocking bird and fed him this cereal every hour on the hour. I did this for a week until I gave it to a wildlife sanctuary.

  • lol i just found mine 2 min ago dont know what bird it is tho. plz help me and tell me how to feed him

  • if you read the description, the robin was killed by a red tailed hawk.

  • Should have just kept it as a pet, or your pet's pet.

Animals raised in captivity have lots of difficulty adjusting to life in the wild.

It's like throwing a rich spoilt kid onto the streets and take away all of his money and stuff.

  • Was the bird ever fit to release into the wild?

I only ask because you should not introduce wild animals to pets that would be otherwise dangerous to them if they were on their own. Your dogs may be friendly, but if the bird is taught early on that they aren't dangerous, it won't know to fly away from other ones.

  • very nice video. Is this robin still together with you or is he gone to the wild? I'm growing one at the moment as well, but looks like he's sick and he might die... :(

  • What is wrong with you all? dOES THAT SEEM REMOTLY FAIR ON BIRD OR DOG?
