The claim that 2:256 is abrogated is not correct.

That verse pertains simply to forced conversion in Islam, which is strictly prohibited. Besides, it's a Madinan verse, not a Meccan one.

9:29 says that Muslims are to wage offensive warfare to subjugate non-Muslims, not to force them to convert.
