Just a short vid on how to fix a HL drive for your broke 360.

ALSO ONE IMPORTANT NOTE: IT SOMETIMES HELPS TO ADJUST THE TWO SILVER SCREWS. AFTER YOU TIGHTEN THEM ALL OF THE WAY, BACK OFF 1 AND A HALF TURNS EACH. TRY A DUAL LAYER DISC....IF IT DOESN'T WORK CONSISTENTLY BACK OFF ANOTHER QUARTER TURN UNTIL IT STARTS TO BOOT DISCS PROPERLY. YOU CAN AVOID ALL OF THIS IF YOU MARK THE SCREWS BEFORE REMOVING THEM.
If i've helped you save 100 bucks send me a donation, any amount is accepted! https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=VQ85...

  • well this work on a BEN-Q Drive?

  • @Matthew55904 see my rubber band trick video.

  • Hi I have a Hitachi drive and the motor is not spinning at all, it dose nothing I cleaned it (I think so) but still not spinning what have I missed? and mostly what should I do?, I have a BenQ drive but I need to extract my dvd key

  • @GH1987 bad laser on the hitachi. i don't know about extracting dvd keys

  • @GamerGuy51 Really? the motor that spin the disk is actually caused by the laser? weird cause the laser seem to work it lit and work normally, btw to extract the DVD key from Hitachi drive with ROM 78 or 79 you need an unlock disk.

  • @GH1987 right, if the laser is working properly and so is the spindle then yes, if it sees a disc it will spin it up, if not no spin.

  • IT WORKED! You are the MAN. THANKS!

I've watched 15 different videos with as many fix ideas for "read error" drives, and for our 360, yours did the trick. My son is back playing COD MW2, and I am a HERO. Balance in the universe has been restored.

  • This tutorial helped me fix an xbox that hadn't been used in years. Thank you soooo much.

Btw, for anyone who tries this, make sure you put the cable back in correctly and make sure the two parallel screws aren't too loose so the disc doesn't hit the laser or it's cables. That happened to me and I scratched my disc.

  • I found out how to avoid this in the first place.

OK SO I HAVE THIS PROBLEM AS WELL I HAVENT FIXED IT BUT I KNOW HOW TO PREVENT IT. when your disks are scratched and you put it into your xbox it is hard on the lens so install the games on to your xbox if you can it will not stress out the system as much and you will avoid this.

THUMBS UP SO EVERYONE CAN SEE please. i hope i helped someone

  • Hey for anyone not sure of this fix i can say it honestly worked for me thanks for the great vid!

  • will this work for ben-q drive??? because i took the top off the spindle and now it completely doesent spin at all, and i'm not sure if its broken or not?? help!?

  • I did this last year to my xbox and it worked like a charm. The only problem was it would screw up again every few weeks. It eventually got to the point where it would screw up if a disc spinned for about 10 minutes. I eventually had to order a brand new spindle.

  • You take it off first, then the white ones, shouldnt be a problem if you have the right tools

  • Thanks, this was very useful in fixing my Xbox 360!
