Cavaquinho's are a completely different instrument. Manuel nunez, a cabinet maker brought the first Ukulele to hawaii , indeed it was from portugal. He taught Sam Kamaka I the art of hand building the instrument. The Kamaka family still build Ukuleles today and are, to many one of the best Ukulele's around, to me, THE best. No other Uke sounds as good.
