Aw Haley... fare you well. I feel your pain. But you have people that understand... and I know you'll grow up and be happy!

Good video, I have it and just recently figured it out...so its really good to know theres a name for it other than "shyness", cuz when someone says you're shy it makes you feel like you can help it, but you actually can't and it gets really frustrating. I have a video about it too on my channel!

@jerseychik26 I know you posted your comment awhile ago but oh well. I am 18 and overcame SM at 13, and I sincerely wish you and your daughter the best. Things are different for every child, but what worked best in my situation was being in a situation with two peers, one who I talked to and one who I didn't. This helped me gradually warm up to the peer I did not talk to because I was able to let them hear my whisper when I talked to the peer I was more comfortable with. Best wishes

my daughter is everything u mentioned and more. she was diagnosed with select mutism when she was 4 so about 2 years now. she does the ocupational therapy and play therapy but i don't feel is helping. what can u suggest what has helped? i'm desperate and overwhelmed with all of it

they need to change the name, it makes SM people seem rude or that they dont like the person >:(

@angelaellisashley this works too, write down "I know how to read" on a paper :)
