Stefbot, assuming you are referring to Christianity,

this implies that a nation that was not notably

of the Christian faith now is becoming so.

America was founded by people who

are now described as fundamentalist Christians. Are you going to deny the nose

An elected official doesn't need "a certain amount of intelligence." If a large portion of the population are genuinely religious, then some of those religious people will also become politicians, and they will have voter support because they are religious.

But why do they do it? Maybe it is because the CIA overthrew the Iranian government in the 1950s and installed the brutal Shah. After installing the Shah, America succeeded in controlling 60% of Irans oil. Let's say Mexico overthrew the US government then turned around and said that it owned 60% of the oil in Texas. Would Americans be happy about this, or would they burn Mexican flags in the streets?
