OMGGG AMAZINGGG!!!

@pudgeuncle oh... you are right! I just went and checked it... it did apparently earn more academy award nominations than My Fair Lady. Mary Poppins got 13 nominations (5 won) and My Fair Lady got 12 nominations (8 won)... The point was that Julie Andrews received praise and fame for being Mary Poppins, and ended up winning both Best Actress awards over superb actress Audrey Hepburn! (who btw is amazing as well) I mean when you're a star, you're a star! Thanks so much for the correction!

@andreca90 Mary Poppins won more awards than My Fair Lady? In what alternate universe did that happen?

I do love the genius behind allowing Henry and Eliza a song each, where they fantasize about awful things happening to the other person. So twisted.
-
@hazzah4me but she got famous for doing mary poppins instead!!! which in fact won a lot more awards than my fair lady!!! hahaha what a slap in the face... i think julie said something about it when she won the golden globe for mary poppins...

But all I want is 'enry 'iggins 'ed.

Why would they not choose an already singer/actress instead of an actress only and do a dub over??? Plus, I think Julie Andrew's personifies Eliza Doolittle better, and she definitely would have performed the part of the transformation very well. Just shows what a mistake Hollywood made in not giving her the part. Although I like the movie alright with Audrey Hepburn I would have liked it much more with Julie in it. I couldn't agree more- she is the REAL "My Fair Lady"!

this is a later recording. I have the original 1956 cast recording, I think it was recorded in early 1957.

I think the London version is much more refined, they are both excellent and I listen to them both equally, but I think the later recording is superior with respect to the entire cast, not just Julie. But to each their own, right?
