Yes,it WAS a 'simple little film',& THAT'S precisely why it worked.It wasn't downed under wave after wave of superfluous detail,the cast gave the performances which were expected of them,no more,mo less.All this lent the reality to the 'fiction'.I say fiction simply 'cause none of us REALLY know what went on,we can only go by 'sources close to. . . . . ' A 1st rate film from a 1st rate actor.

I don't follow Helen 's thoughts as to why it was a success. Of course people like to be able to see what is never shown from behind the scenes, but it goes deeper. People like to know that Their Monarch is with Them. Maybe Helen doesn't quite understand just how well she played her role. To me at least, she was The Queen and any decent human being loved her.
