  • If there is no creator and you are an accident of mindless matter then eat drink and be merry for tomorrow you die. Don't worry about life. You started as dirt - you will end as dirt so live like dirt. If not then you were created in the heart and mind of God and the individual fingerprint you have says you are unique and have a purpose. Eternity is in your heart and existence. Find God and find purpose. Jesus - God revealed to us and the way to God and purpose. Just a thought to help.

  • I used to be a devout christian so I understand where you are coming from. A life without religion is not as meaningless as you might think. Our time is limited so we should take care to enjoy our life and improve the lives of others. Also, your argument that either atheism is true or christianity is true is a false dichotomy. Any one of the thousands of religions could be true. I think that all religions attempt, however feebly, to understand a universe much much bigger than ourselves.

  • The same can be said about parallel universes. It took 14 billion years for the universe to become self aware. We are an attempt of the universe to understand itself. Thanks for your comments. Your thoughts are very interesting. Note that I am not writing to refute or rebut your opinions. We are each entitled to our own thoughts and I thank you sincerely for yours. Peace.

  • Our minds are the calculators and our sense organs are the measurers. It may well be that our thoughts are a result of space and time but that may be the extent of it. I too have looked into the cyclical universe model and find it to be very provocative. I love the idea of it but cosmological sciences have extraordinary work ahead of them to demonstrate it. M theory is also an interesting take on the beginning of our universe.

  • Just because our minds demand purpose, doesnt necessarily require for said purpose to exist. There is credibility to your arguments from a quantum perspective (i.e. atoms arent at any one place until they are measured) but I doubt this principle has any ability to answer the question of lifes purpose. I dont think the power of our thoughts can control space and time. I believe space and time would exist even if we were not here to observe it.

  • (i.e. Why are unicorns hollow? What is the color of justice? When will ham turn to jello?) Through the course of evolutionary time, natural selection favored individuals that had pattern recognition abilities. In other words, if one could see the cause and effect of planting seeds and then having plants bear fruit, primitive farming is born. Because everything in our daily lives has a purpose, we think that even the universe must have a purpose.

  • Lately Ive found ontological or philosophical naturalism to be the best answer regarding the questions of lifes purpose. Lifes most obvious purpose, from a genetic perspective, is the propagation of the species. Any purpose out side of that is still up for debate in my opinion. As far as the purpose of the universe, I think there probably isnt one. Just because we can put a questions word in a sentence doesnt mean it is an answerable (or reasonable) question.

  • Interesting, but I have my own thoughts. I'll try and sum my thoughts up really short. The purpose of life is to help create the universe (I still am trying to find the purpose of the universe). Life creates time and space, and none of those three ca exist without the other. Time and space are how life experiences it. It doesn't exist if it isn't being experienced. If we could really focus and control our thoughts, we could control time and space. The three of us make up the universe.

  • I took Philosophy 101 in college and was always interested in the big questions. Those questions are definitely worth asking and absolutely worth answering. I have mostly nailed down what I accept as reality but am always willing to reconsider when/if given a reasonable argument. Thanks for your comment. Peace.

  • nice explanation, do u take philosophy?
