Im building a simple computer table that will house a laptop. The design calls for a wide base and the ability to pull the laptop closer. Ive used the wide base to have two different surfaces. The left side slides on 12″ drawer slides and is slanted for easy viewing and typing on a laptop. The right side is fixed for papers, etc.

The entire piece will be made out of Baltic Birch (or Russian Birch). The final piece will be painted, so the end grain should match (well enough) with the rest of the piece. Ill use joint connectors to assemble the piece allowing it to be knocked down in the future.

I started by shaping the sides which are the most interesting pieces (the rest are fairly rectangular). I cut some plywood down to outside dimensions and then ganged them up using some brad nails in order to shape both sides at the same time. I traced the shape onto one side and then starting cutting out the lines using a jigsaw and Festool TS55.

While the pieces were still ganged, I sanded them together to give them the same profile (and save time). When they came apart, I had the side in final form ready to go!

  • I don't know where to begin. Who is funding your shop. I've never seen a wood shop that could afford tools, proper dust collection, and expensive tools too. You should come and see where I work,,,,wow!!!

  • @HorseWaterDrink Hahahah. Glad you like it! It's a constant work in progress, upgrading, changing configuration, etc.
