Where to find the ingredients: Not as hard as you think. Go to an international market or a Mexican store... this stuff is super common. Just ask for:
Jugo Maggi
Salsa Inglesa
Tajin (This is the mixture of chili, salt, and dehydrated lime. There are many brands, and all are very similar. If they don't have Tajin, just get whatever salt / chili / limon (lime) mixture they have. In Mexico a bottle costs about a dollar. But at any price, it's AWESOME!

Brad is a motivational speaker...which has NOTHING to do with this video.... But who says speakers can't drink fun beer drinks?

How to make a michelada! The secret is to get the same ingredients they use in Mexico. This delightful Mexican beer drink is lovely... one of my favorites. And it's the real deal, because my friend Oscar (from Mexico City) taught me the real deal.

There are other recipes out there, but they aren't right. They are Americanized.... which makes sense. But it doesn't make for the very best drinks.

The keys are to find real Jugo Maggi and to use a dried chili, salt and dehydrated lime mixture. The most common brand in Mexico is Tajin, but there are several and they are all good. You can make your own, but the dehydrated lime in the chili powder gives it a really cool kick that you'll love.

Another common mistake in other recipes about how to make a michelada is to not use sufficient lime juice. Don't skimp. Ton's of limes. The most common (and cheapest limes) here in Mexico are the small ones. (I've seen them called Key Limes in the States. ) My guess is that it doesn't matter, just make sure your michelada has a ton of lime juice.

The keys really are the Tajin (chili powder) both on the mouth of the glass and in the drink, Maggi in the drink, and more limes than you think.

By the way, my pal Oscar likes his Micheladas without hot sauce, but I like them with it. Use the yellow label Valentino...it's best and has a very nice vinegar kick. It's also a little less spicy than the American Tabasco. But go ahead and make it right with Valentino... you won't be sorry.

Enjoy this recipe.... Brad Montgomery

Happy Drinking...and of course, drink responsibly. It's the right thing to do, and you'll make your momma proud.

(I made this video after living in Mexico for a year and sampling as many of them as time permitted. Which, to be honest, was quite a few. Thanks to Oscar Montes de Oca for teaching me how to make these drinks and for co-staring in the video. Sommos hermanos!)
