IL CRISTO LUNGO di Castroreale (Messina)

La festa del Cristo Lungo che si celebra a Castroreale antichissima cittadina arroccata sui monti Peloritani in provincia di Messina è una di quelle feste popolari che non si può fare a meno di vedere almeno una volta -
Sulle origini della "vara" la tradizione narra che sarebbe stata costruita nell'agosto del 1854 quando un antico e miracoloso crocifisso fu innalzato su una lunga asta per permettere ai malati di colera di vedere il passaggio dell'immagine attraverso i balconi aperti -
In realtà da chi e quando fu ideata l'attuale "vara" resta ancora oggi, nonostante antichissimi documenti che attestino l'esistenza della festa fin dal XVII secolo, un interrogativo a cui nessuno è riuscito a dare una giusta datazione -
