Thank you so much! I am studying Hebrew with Hebrew for Christians , a free site and it has sound. I like the daily site blog because it explains the upcoming Jewish Holidays and Shabbat.
I don't know Yiddish and the "folksy" traditions. It's fun to learn. I am lazy though and the songs are a wonderful way to get the language in your soul. I like this "Frank Sinatra" type video. Happy Chanuka this season! Shalom.

Its like a spinning top with four sides, each side has the first letter from each word from the phrase 'nes gadol haya sham' ('A great miracle happened there' dreidels outside Israel) or 'nes gadol haya po' (a great Miracle happened here' dreidels in Israel). Children usually play with it, you have like a pot of chocolate money usually and each letter does something, if it lands on a נ you forefit your next go and if it lands on like a ג you get all of the chocolate coins and it starts again
