May 9, 2010: Mom is quietly enjoying Mother's Day at the nest when Dad alerts her to intruders in the area! They both chase after the intruders, and then Mom returns, only to take off once more. She returns to the nest again, still on high alert, perched on the housing of the close-up camera. Dad finally returns (you can see his shadow as he flies over the nest).

Eagles must always be alert to intruders, including other eagles.

  • Wow! I sure wouldn't want to be an intruder. WAY too many pissed off talons and beaks for my taste. But I was surprised that under such a red alert, they BOTH took off and left the eaglet unprotected. It might be a risky shot, but a really fast intruder with a lot of luck *might* be able to swoop over and grab it.

  • @anmoose Good point, but perhaps it takes two of them to chase off the intruders, sending them as far away as possible.

  • Yeah, I'm sure they know their own abilities far better than we do and wouldn't take such chances. I'm just the overprotective paranoid uncle... :-)
