The 38th G8 summit is to be held in Chicago, Illinois, United States on May 19-20, 2012.[1] It will occur alongside the NATO summit, likely generating an unusual amount of attention—positive and negative

Protest groups and other activists are expected to make a strong showing at the summit, and these groups are expected to have planned well in advance. Adbusters, the organization responsible for initiating Occupy Wall Street, has called for a mass occupation of Chicago starting on May 1. This call has the potential to bring together the newer domestically-focused Occupy movement with the ongoing anti-globalization movement.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel proposed a set of ordinances to prepare for protests during the summit. Though Emanuel initially stated that these ordinances would apply only during the summit, he later acknowledged that they would be permanent. The new laws include the following provisions: Authorization for the Mayor to purchase and deploy surveillance cameras throughout the city, without any type of oversight. Restrictions on public activity, including amplified sound and morning gatherings. Restrictions on parades, including the requirement to purchase an insurance policy worth $1 million and to register every sign or banner that will be held by more than one person. The power to deputize many different types of law enforcement personnel other than the Chicago Police Department. These new ordinances drew protests from the ACLU, Amnesty International, the Occupy Movement (particularly Occupy Chicago), and the pro-life movement

Why the hell are you glorifying the violent protesters with this video? The point to protest is to do it peacefully, doing it violently gives the police an excuse for their behaviour. Agent provocateurs can more easily be pointed out if it's only them and not protesters as well.

@Ryushihotshot this video was not meant to be a glorification of violence but instead a warning message and foreshadowing of what may very well happen at the G8 Chicago summit... much like it has happened at other Global Economic Summits like Toronto and Pittsburgh.

All the footage used in this video are from Global Economic summits.

My question is - why do world leaders continue to have these summits in these major cities knowing very well what the response is going to be?

My passport got here after the G20 toronto, so I missed the event, but I kept watch on everything from day 1, and interviewed a number of comrades who attended... both comrades in the black bloc and comrades there for "peaceful protest". I'm aware that the event was mostly peaceful, and that the Toronto pd used the destruction of 3 abandoned police cars as justification for shutting down the free speech zone and setting up massive prison camps.

@criyi12 if you aren't sure why people would ever want to protest a G8, G20, or NATO summit than you're not paying enough attention. The attendees of these summit symbolize a small minority that wields incredible amounts of power and influence.. and I don't know if you've been paying attention or not but we're on the brink of a total international economic disaster.. and the attendees are all active participants in it.. and their reckless behavior spells disaster for all of us.

@Mizernyi yes the peace, theres a difference between peaceful and violent protest, violent protest doesn't bloody work and pisses alot of people off. i do work and i do pay my taxes, however im from the uk where we aren't afraid to pay decent taxes that control our economy alot better than the us.
