Buffalo Springfield - For What It's Worth, (1967, Bandstand, el Hollywood Palace, Smothers Brothers).
(Sorry, video advertising is a matter of youtube, I have nothing to do.)
Buffalo Springfield was a rock group that served as a springboard for the careers of Neil Young, Stephen Stills, Richie Furay and Jim Messina, two of whom played in rock, pop, folk, country and acoustic group Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young later in their career. Buffalo Springfield is best known for the song "For What It's Worth". After the band's formation in April 1966, a series of disruptions, including infighting and the pressure of working in the music industry, resulted in constant changes in the group's lineup and ultimately culminated in the group's disbanding after roughly 25 months. Buffalo Springfield released a total of three albums but left many demo recordings, studio outtakes and live recordings, as well as a reputation for excellent personnel and high band dysfunction.[1] Despite the band's short tenure and relatively limited output it was one of the most influential bands of the 1960s, with virtually all members going on to successful careers and with two (Stills and Young) reaching the top of rock stardom.
Components of the band.
Richie Furay
Dewey Martin
Jim Messina
Stephen Stills
Neil Young
Bruce Palmer

For What It's Worth :
There's somethin' happenin' here.
What it is ain't exactly clear.
There's a man with a gun over there
A-tellin' me I've got to beware.
I think it's time we stop.
Children, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin' down.
There's battle lines bein' drawn.
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong.
Young people speakin' their minds
A-gettin' so much resistance from behind.
I think it's time we stop.
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin' down.
What a field day for the heat.
A thousand people in the street
Singin' songs and a-carryin' signs
Mostly sayin' hooray for our side.
It's time we stop.
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin' down.
Paranoia strikes deep.
Into your life it will creep.
It starts when you're always afraid.
Step out of line, the men come and take you away.
You better stop.
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin'..
You better stop.
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin'..
You better stop.
Now, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin'..
You better stop.
Children, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's goin'..

Great song, wonderful vintage video. But the audio seems to be a studio version that was merged with a variety show video. No way could you have gotten audio of that quality from live production facilities of the time. I would love to see the video with its original audio track even if it is inferior to the studio version.

But what's up with kids today? "We" old fogies took to the streets and used our music and used our best efforts to inspire change. Why aren't kids doing that today? If I were 21 again trust me I'd be out there on the sidewalks again protesting, but now protesters are treated like lunatics. "We" changed society, ended segregation & a war; enacted environmental regulations; we accomplished real advancement. Kids today act like they could give a crap less about the world. I miss the old days!!

What a great song. Too bad the comments are full of naive old-timers who have nothing better to do than generalize youth culture behind their curtain of nostalgia.
