I know I said I wasn't going to be posting anymore videos for awhile, but today I was doing a little surfing on YouTube and came across a video by Randi2244 that was an audio recording of "Snowblind" at Cali. Jam '74. A great post, but the her audio is much more booming sounding than my copy of California Jam. No big deal though, until a gentleman by the name of "Calijamscott" decided to give his "expert opinion" on it since he supposedly did the sound for the ABC TV special on it. He says Randi2244's post was NOT California Jam.

Naturally, I doubted this assumption, so I decided to give my copy of California Jam a listen. My copy is different than Randi2244 in that it contains all the pre and post-song ramblings by Ozzy. Some bootleg versions edit these out. Others leave them in. Plus, the mix on mine is more raw sounding and less boomy. Randi's copy is no more than a different boot of the same show.

Anyway, I gave them a listen and picked out certain parts of the audio...and guess what?...they are IDENTICAL. I informed this gentleman that he was wrong, but yet still insists otherwise. So I leave it to you guys to listen to both and tell me what you think. Here is the link to Randi2244's post:

Pay specific attention to what Ozzy says during lines to the crowd, as well as the count in by Bill Ward.

Update: Caljamscott's drug-fueled ramblings have caused him to be banned from this post. I feel stupid to have wasted my time with him, learning that he is a 51 year old con-artist named Scott Lifshine who claims to sell audio from California Jam. All he has is a 3 hrs long tape he copied himself from the radio back in 1974. The guy has obviously used a lot of drugs the past several years and makes ridiculous claims about being the "greatest filmmaker ever" and "the only one important in music". Kids, if there was only one good reason to refrain from drug use, the reason would be so you don't turn out like that dope.

Anyway, enjoy the audio.

  • The photo is NOT from the Cal Jam...............The recording possibly???

I was 20ft. from the stage and the sun was going down down down.

  • @sfaster

...And you would know that if you read the 1st comment IMMEDIATELY BELOW the video.

But fuck that whole 'reading' bullshit....who needs it, right?

  • @blacksabfan

What was the Setlist from CA jam?

  • @aldohux

Tomorrow's Dream, Sweet Leaf, Killing Yourself to Live, War Pigs, Snowblind, Sabbra Cadabra (with the whole guitar solo, interlude thing with "Sometimes I'm Happy", the drum solo a medley of Supernaut and Iron Man and then the reprise of Sabbra Cadabra), Paranoid, Embryo/Children of the Grave.

  • What makes you think this is fromm The California Jam, the picture IS NOT from the jam.. If you want to see Black Sabbath at the jam check these out

    californiajamfanclub's

  • The picture is a stock picture, I think from 1973. I've used it on a few videos from the time period. The audio is from California Jam...ripped from the best circulating source of the show.

And yes, I've seen Allen's work. It's nice, but it still contains the same 4 Sabbath videos from that show that have circulated for years, although Allen's are of excellent quality.

Nevermind that I've heard Sabbath's California Jam set many times. I could identify a song from that show in my sleep.

  • I truly have a great liking for the Ozzy-led Black Sabbath . Let me offer this about the previous argument of pro drug vs. anti drug where Snowblind is concerned.

Regardless of the drug use that BS members enjoyed, Sweetleaf is the only song that praises the use of any drug: marijuana.

Other than that, Hand of Doom (1970) is absolutely anti-heroin, and Snowblind (1972) acknowledges the enjoyment of cocaine but confirms that there is a painful addiction/denial

  • Did you go snort Cocaine then? I listened to it when I was young and didn't make me go shoot up. Song is telling you what his experience with it is and how the addict denies his addiction :

"Don't you think I know what I'm doing, Don't tell me what I'm doing is wrong, You're the one who's really the loser. This is where I feel I belong."

Within the context of the song, makes sense for Ozzy to scream COCAINE since he's the addict. Up to individual to make his own choice.

  • Is there any concert footage of black sabbath between 1971 and 1973? I see the paris show from 1970 and then the california jam from 74 but not much in between. Just curious

  • They are amazing pioneers!

Even started the belly button craze of many years later.

  • 4/6/1974 is my fucking birthday,I knew there was a reason I LOVE ME SOME SABBATH! FUCK YEEEEAHHHHH!

  • holy shit ozzy had a great voice

  • You can tell that the pic here is not from Cal Jam, because the monitors used there were by a company called Tycobrahe, but the ones in this pic say "Jands" on em

  • That Scott Lifeshine dude is an asshole, he says that he has the mastertapes to the entire Cal Jam concert, which is not true
