They were using the same clutches on (3cyl) diesel and gas engines. My experience is that they are lasting much longer on the gas engines. This must have something to do with the powerdevelop. in the cyl. of eigher gas or diesel eng. Also it seems to be important how many cyl. the engine has and how many powerstrokes there are on the crakshaft per rev. I would allways prefere a solution with a nice flywheel and a direct connect. to the gen. (no clutch)

    Best regards

  • @douro20

Thank´s a lot, your answer is exactly my opinion, (I just wanted to hear it from another person).

Right tomorrow I will have to change a clutch on a gas engine/ generator unit were the builders were not aware of this problem. ( I know I will be lucky if it is only the clutch ).

Nobody should ever dare to sell piston engine /generator units unless he is not VERY sure to be on the safe side concerning these power pulses, because the costs of guarantee repairs might kill him.

  • @XELA2T

A larger diameter flywheel would smooth out the power transmission pulses- something which is very important when generating power.

  • @douro20

I am your opinion using such an engine as power generator would be a good thing to do, but why do you mean it should have a larger flywheel?

  • Beautiful engine, beautiful sound, looks like brand new.

    Congratulations

  • I'm guessing this was pulled out of a scrapped ship. Would make a good power generation engine with a larger flywheel.

  • Wonderful engine - great sound!

  • DET er sukkertøj! Jeg har selv haft en lille kutter med en 3cyl Callesen, men den maskine her er fantastisk! vh Jacob E.
