This song always puts a knot in my throat, and brings tears to my eyes. The mental imagery of we as children abandoning god, and as a result him forsaking us. That he's not coming back to reclaim us as his own, because of all the hate, greed, and hurt we've inflicted on our own brothers, sisters, children, planet and all the life that inhabits it -- which has made us so unworthy of his forgiveness. It's a very underrated song, but it's such a masterpiece. Bravo, George! Bravo!!!

masterpieces like this should be playing on the radio every day in this country instead of the flimsy, quickly written dreck that is blaring out today.

It has everything, power cords, great keyboards, a strong acoustic backing, his haunting vocals, and powerful wording that should make every soul think deeply.

Mr Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou (George's given name), you are the greatest male vocalist, performer & writer of the past 30 years.

George is a genius. The melody is great and the lyrics are fantastic . I remember when this song came out our society was in great shape. I thought "what the hell is he talking about??" Now after almost 25 years we have spreading poverty, egoism, the end of solidarity and religion, greed at The maximum level. He kind of predicted the future

Ironic how you praise George Michael for 'condoning' the behavior of Christians yet in the next breath mock Christian's and their "fairytale". Maybe you should listen to the song again and get the "real" message of the song?

Beautiful song but if you believe in 'God' he made it all 'good' and 'bad'. Fortunately for us, we can still change for the better so let us put aside our beliefs for a moment and enjoy the true meaning of the words. :-)
