From the 1987 Breeders Crown Aged Pace, Robust Hanover stumbles during the post parade, resulting in an automatic judge's scratch. Look at my other videos for an interview with Bill O'Donnell's with his reaction.

  • Long ago as a kid I watched a race in which one of the trotters went down due to a heart attack and died right there on the course. No laughing matter, to no one, I assure you.

  • was he ok?

  • @loraleypike

In pacing-bred Standardbreds, pacing is a natural gait. As youngsters, this gait is further engrained with the use of hobbles--and horses often train and race with them always(although some are free-legged too) Hobbles are used more to help the horse support his gait at high speeds than anything else. Now that trotters are getting closer to sub-50 miles you're seeing practically entire fields wearing trotting hobbles now too--when a trotter wearing hobbles used to be a rarity.

  • lol Just as she said "He's in fine racing form" he face-plants...

  • HA HA LOfty Bruce look at Reggie gumond

  • @MrJamesb83 no he didnt, he just tripped thats all

  • at least he never dropped the whip in a big race or anything

  • Did Robust run and win?

  • @Hamcorder not to argue with you because i mostly agree, but i actually love riding pacing horses. the faster they go the smoother they are, and you just gotta know how to swivel your hips to ride them slow. but i find them very comfortable. it is natural tho. i had a little paint horse who paced and galloped. not 1 trotting bone in his body. he had never seen a pair of hopples.

  • I agree with CorocottasGirl, great reaction by the jockey to keep Robust Hanover down. Nice quick thinking.
