Magic should be used to gain a deeper knowledge of human behaviour, according to North East scientists.
Psychologists from Durham University and the University of British Columbia believe studying tricks by top illusionists, such as Derren Brown and David Blaine can help understand how people think and act.
You just kept it in your hand, but still very nice! :D

@irresistablejewel Yes, That is exactly what I said. It's very curious isn't it, the survival mechanisms we developed.

@LaLaLaflobble According to a BBC Horizon documentry "Is seeing believing?" Your eyes are not fooled by the illusion; the brain over-rides the visual data in processing the information (People were wired up to an eye tracking device)
It seems the brain spends a lot of time predicting the future. This is not a flaw in humans; rather an efficient survival tactic
If you think you might have seen a tiger in the bushes and run away, you have lost nothing if you are wrong
You see what you believe

How is this so good?

It's really a very smart little trick. It works on the basis of false memory. The brain sees the ball going up twice (the magician tracks it with hias eyes and this is a cue for you to do the same). The brain then sub-conciously assumes that the ball will continue to do so. Therefore, on the third throw, you briefly create a false image/memory of the ball going up.. as your eyes realise it's not there it, simply vanishes! You never think to simply check the hands until it's over.
