I'm 5'10" and around 180lbs, I throw 40'+/-.... i use the spin technique, but can never fully get my hips closed when i plant before the throw. Anyone have tips on how I can learn to do so? I want to break my school record by the end of spring. the record is 49'3"...

enough fucking fouls?

@dark8121 Freshmen is first year in college? Most of these guys threw about 19meter at age 18/19 which is more like 63 feet
-
@HPCsport And the guy bench presses a house, his freakish strength is the reason he can land in such a position and still bomb one
-
@dark8121 thats terrible lol. these guys were probably throwing closer to 50 their freshman years. i threw 42 my freshman year, but theres not way i will be as good as these guys lol.

just think if cantwell had a little more bend in his knee. wow. all time record for sure.
-
@HPCsport Ya taylor does do the 9 clock drop very well out the back. he needs to stay low out the back and he woluld do better
-
im a freshman my personal best was only 29.8 ft :( bet they were throwing like 40 in their freshman year
how can someone throw that far with his feet placed like dan taylor....tried the rotational shot put myself and had problems with the realease in such a postition :(

@Pudi1991 It's not as big of a deal as when the glide technique is used. Many of the top spin throwers in the world have their best throws when they have a very close stance and 'duck footed' stance.

@HPCsport But it is hard to see how Dan Taylor is able to get his hips around properly with the closed "duck footed" stance. Wouldn't such stance impede hip movement? It seems as if he is getting less hip into his finish than the other guys because he is too closed off. Do you think he would throw further if he fixed this?

@Jamac72 Plenty others land like that...the problem is when the foot doesn't rotate at all. It's possible (but more difficult) to get the hip around and leave the foot behind like Taylor but IMO the foot not rotating is more of a symptom (of doing things incorrectly out of the back of the ring) rather than a direct cause.
