This video gradually gets better and better, I was laughing with them during their airport conversation. Something about Craig always brings out the best in his guests.

Well that was a convulted sentence, much different to your previous one I might add.
I wouldn't say the English are "better", I just feel that Americans idolise the more artificial type of woman e.g. Katy Perry. It just occured to me that Zooey should be English as she's quite alternative. She loves The Beatles and The Smiths, showing she has a fine taste in English culture, and I would guess that the majority of Americans are unfamiliar with The Smiths.

:) That's very much true for a many people here but a LOT more are the sorts you're talking about. The whole celebrity thing is at a ridiculous level as it is everywhere else. In the way that I wouldn't call lovely Zooey a "celebrity" in the way it's used now. I'd say "most of us" are after an artificial look whether they no it or not. It saddens me that we're not particularly English at all.

Actually, I would say you are incorrect. I think the media portrays Americans to only like the *artificial* beauty, and so I can see why you would think we do, but often I have found that people complain about these examples of beauty because many do not agree with it, but in fact prefer a natural look. Also, a lot of us (I am American) are most definitely aware of The Smiths along with many bands, English or not. Not all of us are ignorant.

I never said ignorant. The media does not create the idea of an artificial beauty; American culture as a whole does. Surely you'd agree that ZD is seen as fairly alternative. It's part of her appeal. Thus, better known idols in America could be described as 'mainstream'. These mainstream women (or men) have achieved this status because of the appeal they present to the majority of people. ZD doesn't appeal in this way, because she hasn't the 'modern' beauty I believe the US public admire.

Angelina Jolie is considered one of the most beautiful women in America constantly, and she certainly doesn't look artificial. Kate Beckinsale was recently ranked as the sexiest woman in the world by Esquire, an American magazine. Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman are also HIGHLY praised. I hear men complain all the time about girls wearing too much makeup and being too skinny (like some celebrities in the MEDIA). Your perception is quite skewed.

Jolie is very artificial! Married to a similarly false actor, jumping on the African adoption bandwagon, rolling herself for every awards ceremony, starring in obviously profit-driven, mediocre films... "Some celebrities in the media" is a meaningless statement as the media isn't a concrete noun; the media's reports are opinions, and reflect an individual's thoughts. America, as a general rule, worships perfection, artifical or not. Why do you think so many celebrities resort to plastic surgery?
