you think that more women would be o.k. with him hitting her later in the movie. He was defending a woman in his case, and she sabotaged it.

An extraordinary scene and David Mamet is the best screenwriter in the last 30 years.
Charlotte Rampling's chastisement is ironic because she is an agent for the side that wants him to fail. Because his character is considered washed up and incapable of regaining his mojo, what better candidate to represent the plaintiff?

@FigurinItOut I hate that scene. Yeah she was a real bitch for what she did but violence toward women is never justified short of actual self-defense. Yeah, that scene would never play out in today's cinema.
