Anyone is more than welcome to use this design idea for your own egg drop. This video was created for some extra credit; however I have realized through people's comments that it is useful for other people's designs, therefore I am leaving it on Youtube.

If you are entering in one of these into a competition, and it's based mainly on the height and weight of your design, then this is your winning design :P.. Haha, you think I'm kidding?? Try it.. As long as it falls straight and has enough crumple room it should survive.. And it's a really convenient design, especially if your procrastinating because there are not many materials that aren't readily available.

Edit: The 1st drop was only 15ft. tall, while the second one was 25ft. tall...

Sorry I don't have a tutorial on how to make this, but basically it's just:

1. Roll a piece of paper into a cone
2. Stick straws through it, forming a cross
3. Attach ribbons, or streamers to straws or top of cone
4. Drop it off of something that people won't get upset at you once they see you up there :P

The cone will take crush, absorbing the impact, while the straws are there so that it will not lean over and crack. Oh, and the streamers are there to keep it falling straight (or somewhat help). Not a whole lot involved, pretty easy...

Song name is "Sanctificium."

  • heey uhm .. are the crosses of the straws in front and behind .. the egg or .. just .. the back so it doesn't come out? .

  • @NTCompetitive we put them there so that after the impact, it wouldn't just roll over on its side and crack the egg.. we weren't really worried with it coming back out, but it was behind the egg, or in front of the egg if you were looking at it from the opening of the cone.. if that makes any sense lol.. the egg was between the tip of the cone, and the straws (might make more sense phrased that way)

  • I haven't been on to comment in a while, glad it's helped so many people, and very glad to hear of the people who aren't failing a class now because of it :P.. Haha

  • I tried this exact design out and it worked. I had my doubts but it survived a one story fall. Tomorrow I will be testing it again but from the top of a three story building. Thanks a lot!

  • @nightofthelivingned hopefully it goes well, just make sure that there is no wind blowing :P

  • This is incredible! What are the straws for and how are they used?

  • @Pradaprincessa

So when it falls on it's side it doesn't shatter the egg.. It's basically there just in case when it tips over on it's side.

  • what is the streamer for ?

  • What grade did you do this in?

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!

  • smart. good job

  • FUCK YOU YOU'RE GAY SUCK MY DICK COCK HEAD MOTHERFUCKING WHORE.

  • I wonder if the bigger the cone the greater the protection

  • the streamers are not to keep it straight, they flap around in the wind that won't keep anything straight, the purpose of streamers is to create more air resistance to decrease the amount of speed in the fall from the instant stop, impact=mass x change in velocity (final v -initial v) so the smaller the change in the velocity the smaller the impact.

  • @manman3322 I have the cone part done but now how can I get the straws in & where do the streamers go? Ohh & wouldn't the marbles crack the egg?
