Chico DeBarge - Talk To Me (1986)

Here's a memory from the 80's. Chico DeBarge performs his then current release and subsequent hit, "Talk To Me" in this 1986 clip. I remember seeing him debut this song at the old Copa in NYC back in '86 and doing a great job! Take it away......... Chico!

Some of you guys obviously don't realize the music business. Just like the industry folks wanted El and his siblings to sound like Bobby (singing high) when they emerged, in 1983....they also picked those clothes for Chico and probably styled his hair, too. I guess then, they were trying to push the androgynous, fem "Prince", pretty look. And since Debarge was already famous, they probably pressured Chico to dress the same. That's the business. And, add the 80's style to that.

@2conscious They did the same thing to the Jacksons in the early 70's in regards to stage attire. Check out some of old videos of Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5.

I showed this to my friend at work and she almost cried lolllll..she told me not to let anyone else see it..I showed my brother and he was laughing so hard..hey it was the 80's that's what they wore..I still love Chico and El lol

@DetroitLives313 I remember when Chico first came on the scene and when he was on that Punky Brewster episode, so I knew what fashions he use to rock..They on the other hand are younger than I and didn't know about him until the 90's when he got out of prison and was wearing Timberland boots and baggy jeans with a wife beater on....I was laughing at their reaction, because they were upset lolll

@rarabarak I know that's right. Although I live in New York now, I watched the Scene just about everyday back in High School. I am closer to El's age (smile) and when I first saw Chico perform in the 80's at the Copa nightclub here in New York City, this was his latest released and he looked and dressed just as he does in this video. It was not strange at the time because that was the style! LOL! Everything evolves especially music and fashion.

I dont know what half these people are talking about. Chico looks fine as hell, its the 1980's for gods sakes, thats how people dressed. What some of us wear today is going to look crazy to the youth that will come in the next twenty years. Young folkes need to get over themselves. Chico looked fine then and he still look fine now he's in his 40's, just pray that you'll look as good as he do when you get to be in ur 40's.
