USA TODAY's Jefferson Graham introduces Strobist publisher David Hobby, who shows how we set up the photo shoot for USA TODAY. Four different Nikon flashes are used to light him at a Maryland library.
Mr. Hobby has provided thousands of beginning photogs with a clear, creative approach for improving their flash photography... you have tossed a handful of mud. I am sure any adult can see who has the upper hand here. Wipe off the mud on YOUR face and don't post until you grow up. Mr. Hobby can trademark any term... he is the head of the movement and prehaps he can earn a few bucks to help maintain his teaching effort.
Thank you DAVID! I can't wait to go out and start a blog and call myself a professional photographer now and charge half the going rate because I'm so stupid. Meanwhile I can giggle at the established professionals as they go out of business and... yeah now I'm bored. I think I'll start shooting VIDEO! woohoo! It's open mic night forever and ever and ever.
David Hobby is such a fantastic guy and is bringing so much attention and fun to the idea of improving your off-camera lighting. Even in this clip he directs people to his free information on his website to learn more. He doesn't even mentioning he has a fantastic DVD collection that goes into exhaustive detail to learn so much more.
And regardless of what the idiot "tiffcooper" says below - "Strobist" is a fantastic website and a great name.
David Hobby is a total asshole, trust me. Also he is attempting to rename flash photography by calling it "Strobist" which he trademarked. Sorry David I'll just call it Strobism which is what it is actually called.
manual flash ftw! oh btw im a sony minolta user ;) probably the best flash unit on the market hvl-f58am..but hey brands dont matter! it's the head that matters! thanks for the video!
You're welcome! :-) Just remember: It's no matter what brand you use - flashlight and ambient light physics are all the same! I was a Canon shooter for many years and then switched to Nikon in 2008. Maybe my videos are helpful to you too... ;-) Cheers from Germany!
Thank you.... I'm a Canon shooter with a 430EX speedlight in a Nikon Strobist world so it's hard to figure out what I can do that others are talking and blogging about. :-)
Hi, the SB-800s were triggered by the built-in photocell. There is a special mode called "SU4" you can put the camera in to activate the photocell. But with SU4 you have to use the manual mode to use the powerlevel.
Hope that helped a little bit to minimize the confusion. I'm just sitting on a new video of a shooting, where we mixed canon and nikons well... ;-)
His name is David Hobby... David HOBBY.
Un-frickin-believable.
Love it!
