Bars & Restaurants in Fort Greene, Brooklyn

The dog days of summer have come early to New York this year, and the recent heat wave got me feeling wistful about winter, of all things.  Specifically, I was reminded of a particular incident this past year in England when seven people --five staff and two patrons-- got snowed inside a pub for eight days. With plenty of heat, electricity, food, and drinks, everyone had a pretty good time. So I started daydreaming about where in Fort Greene would I want to get snowed in under similar conditions? And perhaps more importantly, would would be my 'plus one?'

In this week's video, I took these questions to the streets to see what other locals would say. As it turns out, the folks I spoke to chose a wide variety of bars and restaurants to get snowed into, citing delicious food and good drink selections as their main motivating factors. While I applaud the merry spirit in which these decisions were made, I was pretty shocked that no one stopped to think about which restaurants or bars had the best seats for sleeping on and other, more practical, matters.

When asked which person, real or fictional, they would like to get snowed in with, the responses were similarly diverse and --if I may-- fanciful. Dashing as he may be, does Mark Harmon know how to chop firewood? Start a fire without matches? Scare away wildlife predators? These are things I would consider. Joking aside, I was touched by how many people chose friends and loved ones to keep them company, in particular the gentleman who would have liked to spend the time with his mother, who had recently passed.
