Performed by Judy, taped October 11, 1963 for 'The Judy Garland Show'. Another rare performance, sung by Judy just this once. Perhaps there are other recordings that I don't know about. Judy had such a vast career it's almost impossible to know everything, and there is new material surfacing. ... She is an endless ocean of talent, having created music in almost every possible venue.

Words by Alan Brandt, music by Bob Haymes, 1952.
It has been covered by many jazz and blues artists, introduced by Nat King Cole. The song is part of the Great American Songbook.

I can only give you love that lasts forever
And a promise to be near each time you call,
And the only heart I own
For you and you alone,
That's all, that's all.
I can only give you country walks in springtime
And a hand to hold when leaves begin to fall,
And a love whose burning light
Will warm the winter night,
That's all, that's all.
There are those, I am sure, that have told you
They would give you the world for a toy.
All I have are these arms to enfold you
And a love time can never destroy
If you're wondering what I'm asking in return, dear,
You'll be glad to know that my requests are small.
Say it's me that you'll adore
For now and ever more,
That's all, that's all.

  • Who designed that set??? Salvador Dali?

  • This was for many years the theme song of the all-night American Airlines MUSIC "TIL DAWN radio show, which kept me up or lulled me to sleep on many an occasion. It's a great song, and I can't imagine it being better performed than it is here; many thank for sharing this treasure.

  • She could hum!

  • You know what? It's Judy Garland. She can sing it any damn way she pleases! lol

  • I love when she holds herself while singing!! It's almost like she has to contain the passion.

  • did she mess up the lyrics? I thought it was "if you're wondering what I'm asking in return, dear"? Please, die hard Judy fans, please don't rip me to shreds for asking this question haha!! I'm just so used to singing that line in THAT way instead of Judy's.

  • @stickstr8up I just laughed out loud at your comment

  • It's from one of her albums I have somewhere(studio version)

  • Judy almost blew the 1st line of the last verse and it's obvious she was reading the lyrics from cue-cards. But, I don't think I've ever heard it sung better. Ms Garland was truly amazing.

  • a performance worthy of tears. so gorgeous. rest her soul.

  • @delux2222 plus she also changes "will warm the winter's night" to "will warm you through the night," which i also prefer
