Learn from Scottish Legends
One of the aims of the Glasgow Athletics Association (GAA) Endurance Coaching group is to utilise the existing resources we have in Scotland better to improve standards in middle distance running.
As part of this the GAA have been looking harness the skills and experience of Scotland's most successful athletes.
Lawrie Spence is arguably one of Scotland's best ever endurance athletes, being ranked in the all time list from Mile to Marathon. During the 1970's and 1980's Lawrie represented Scotland on road, cross country and track (where he also represented GB) culminating in many World Cross Countries, Commonwealth Games selection and a Scottish record at 2k on the track.
The seminar should be of great interest to our younger athletes who were not around in that era as Lawrie coaches some of our best young athletes at the moment - Elspeth Curran and Derek Hawkins - who both had breakthrough cross country seasons last winter. Lawrie will be sharing his experiences and explaining how he has adapted the fundamentals of his training for the modern context in which the athletes in his squad now compete.
The seminar with Lawrie took place on Friday 6th May at Toryglen Football Centre.
